Technology and Ben Franklin

Ben Franklin was in Paris in 1793.  He watched the first manned balloon flight lift off into the sky above carrying two men; this was the first time in human history that man left the earth’s surface under his own power.  A skeptical woman said to him, “Is interesting Doctor but it has no use.”  Dr. Franklin replied, ‘Of what use is there of a new born child, madam?”.
Benjamin Franklin understood that man must be receptive to new technologies and ideas even though the use or benefit of the item or thought is not immediately known or understood.  We will all do well to remember this concept as the world experiences new technologies and ideas.  An open mind benefits both  the person and the world; a closed minded person is of not much use to anyone, including himself.
